Description |
Hawaiian quilt, rose on white, cotton Indian Head fabric. Rose backing fabric faded and white has turned to ivory. Cotton batting, quilted in echo style. Border design applied with fine feather stitching on cut edge; feather stitching outlines binding which is part of rose backing brought to front; narrow edge of white between binding and scalloped edge of design. Binding frayed; rose fabric pieced 22 1/2" from edge of design; white pieced at 31 3/4"; 31 3/4", 10". Stain in lower left corner, insect damage, holes in backing. |

Belonged to Margaret Andrews Hardy Dean, granddaughter of Lorrin Andrews. Donated by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. D. W. Dean. Had been put away since Mrs. Margaret Dean's death in 1940. Pattern is similar to "nani o ka Home" (Home Beauty) with slight changes (leaves and flowers reversed in small pattern, top leaf is missing, edge of design scalloped, long slit in main stem pattern.) Has been compared with photo of Kauai/quilt by that name.
