Description |
Hawaiian flag quilt, the four flags are laid out so that the Union Jack is adjacent to the edge of the quilt. The stripes are red, blue, white, red, blue, white, red, blue (one flag has the stripes red, white, blue, red, blue, white, red, blue) Red crown and lei in center. Fabric is cotton. Quilting is echo style in the center, straight down the stripes. Dark blue binding on the edges, white backing. There is machine stitching on the Union Jack.

This quilt was a wedding gift to James Bicknell in 1906. The colors are fresh and bright, but the white is discolored in some places. Sheila (Griep) Van Zandt, Mrs. Griep's daughter suggested these heirloom quilts (also 82.4.2.B8) be donated to the Hawaiian Mission Children's Society.
