Hawaiian quilt entitled "Kahili a Me Peahi o Liliuokalani" (The feathered royal stands and fans of Queen Liliuokalani). Fabric is 100% cotton, design - medium blue; background - white; backing - white; binding - blue chambray; quilting thread white; applique thread blue. Batting is 100% polyester fiberfill. Fabric used for the backgroud and backing are sheets as there are no seams; the blue fabric is laid with a 60" width sewn to a 26" width. Binding is /8" wide. Applique stitches good, quilting spaced 1 1/2" apart. Quilted pineapples at corners.

Quilt was designed and made for Mary Wong Baumgartner, based on a 1897 kapa "Na Kalaunu, Ma Kahili, me na Pe'ahi (crowns, kahili and fans) Applique done by two ladies, Aunt Elizabeth Akana, age 85, and her niece Mary K. Richardson. Appliqued top was sent to Mrs. Barbara Nichols of Milbury, Ohio, in 1975/76. She completed the quilting in March 1976.
